Chess for Schools Project

The ECF is looking for volunteers to help with packing the sets. To this end, Dominic Tunks is organising a "team" to help with this for one Saturday in April (probably April 24th). The work will be done at Holloid Plastics premises in the Basingstoke area - they will open the factory on a Saturday for this..

If you want to help, let Dominic know he'll be more than happy to co-ordinate this activity.

For legal reasons there is a minimum age of 18 for volunteers - which is a shame because it would be good to get schools themselves involved. The ECF contact has said: "I am looking to have bulk loose pieces distributed to separate locations for packing, so that schools and clubs could be more involved if they wanted too. This is something I have only just begun looking into, and is looking quite positive at the moment." For the sake of chess in Hampshire, that too should be something we'd want to support.

We owe substantial thanks to Graham Stuart, who has recently relinquished the task of web-site maintenance following over eight years work in which he built up and developed the Hampshire Chess website. Please see his "What's New" statement for January 2nd 2010 for futher details.

As a temporary measure, until a new web host is acquired, any newly entered games in 2010 (including Michael Yeo's win against A.Kondenko in the Moscow Open, and David Fowler's victory in a simul against Viktor Korchnoi) will be accessible here.
